Burke, states that “Deontological ethics deals with the adherence of moral rules or duties”. The moral rules are set to the society to monitor and regulate behavior of people living in it. It gives people a guide to the way forward in distinguishing the right from wrong. The deontological ethics is defined by four major subtypes which present different views of how moral rules or duties should be used to monitor people. And more deeply about it I wrote in this article thanks to detecting plagiarism service.
The deontological ethics includes; Contractarianism of Rawls, Kantian theory, Natural Law and Libertarian ethics. Burke, continues to explain that “Contractarianism of Rawls is the code of moral rules that drive people in the community on what should guide them based on a mutual agreement”. The parties involved should meet and discuss the issue facing them and after the agreement, both parties can be bound by those rules. Kantian theory strictly emphasizes that the moral rules and duties should not be based on the consequences, but they should be grounded on goodwill. This theory is not much applicable since human beings have an unforgiving nature and not all actions can be based on goodwill. It is also limited to one’s definition of goodwill. Natural Law theory says that human beings always make their moral rules based on the nature of humans and also the environment that they live in. Libertarian ethical theory claims that the moral laws and duties should not be tied by the government laws or even the social laws but should be based on self-responsibility. We will use Libertarian ethical theory to examine if sexual ethics should be taught to the youngsters in the society today.
Libertarian ethical theory campaigns self-responsibility, which is the most important virtue anyone should possess in the modern society. This is because the society today is based on individualism where people just focus on their own lives unlike in the olden days where community used to participate in bringing up the young generation. On the matter of sexual ethics, a lot of negative issues come up out of irresponsibility. Libertarian ethical theory can perfectly be applied in this situation to provide a solution. The young generation needs to be well informed on issues concerning sexual ethics in early age to enable youth to be self-responsible in the near future. The theory gives us a picture of a society without administration that will make and enforce rules to the people and yet it functions perfectly well.
The reasons why children should be taught sexual ethics in early age make us understand how Libertarian ethical theory perfectly fits in here. For example, health has been an important issue in our society. It mostly revolves around the sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/ AIDS that has no known cure at the moment. The spread of those sexually transmitted diseases is happens through the misuse of sex. If we were to apply Libertarian ethical theory where all the people are self-responsible and are always using preventive measures, transmission of these diseases would be minimal. When the minds of youth are taught, they barely forget. This could be a perfect reason and time to ensure that children distinguish the truth from the myths and misconceptions that surround sexuality. The youngsters should be taught much more about the way people are expected to behave in certain occasions, the marriage cultures and also the moral behaviors. This would ensure that as the children grow, they will be self-responsible throughout their lives.
Whitehead and Thomas, state that “The future of tomorrow lies in the hands of the young generation. If the youth is taught to be self-responsible in early age, they will not have any problem, morally, during their adult lives”. This can be a great benefit to the society of modern times since the implementation of authority would be much easier. Diseases that can be prevented, such as sexually transmitted illnesses, should be put into consideration when educating the young generation. This should include the effects caused by those diseases, proper understanding of those illnesses and of preventive measures that should be taken. With the implementation of Libertarian ethical theory, the adults are able to set good examples to the younger generation. Being a role model for the younger generation will increase the trust it has to its forerunners. Then the youth will try to take the same steps which in return will make them better people in the society.
The Libertarian ethical theory puts the society at risk since it gives people a chance to act on their own and to choose what seems right to them. Some people may take advantage of the situation and use this unsupervised time to give wrong information to the youngsters. This might lead to bringing-up of morally unhealthy generation and, at the same time, destroying the young generation at hand. The threat of misinterpretation can be experienced since everyone has an independent mind hence people tend to have different perception of what is right and what is wrong, especially on matters concerning sexual ethics.
Self-moral laws based on self-responsibility can be the morals rules/duties that society should have. This can be achieved by proper implementation of Libertarian ethical theory and letting people embrace it. Children should be introduced to society that upholds self-responsibility to ensure that they also live responsibly in the future. There might be several weaknesses in this theory when implemented in the society, but the strengths are greater. Libertarian ethical theory is the one we need to embrace if we are willing to eradicate the problems we are facing, especially in sexual ethics. Many people always have the picture in their minds of how the society should look like. This image is very different from what the real society is. The theory gives people a chance to make the world a better place for everyone.
